Why did you go with the tile contractor? Did you just feel it was over your head? But it looks like you ended up doing it yourself in the end?
Labours cost not only in California India too❤❤❤
Had a quote to add a bathroom. Underside of hkuse fully accessible for plumbing and electrical. 30sqft. Quoted 20 to 30k. No thanks im doing this on my own.
I remodeled both my bathrooms for a little under 4k, what I learned is home depot is pricey, there are stores that mainly sell to contractors, which I found out from my contractor friend, better quality and cheaper prices. Also habitat for humanity has good deals too. If your flexible with your design you can save so much I would not buy tile from home depot, it's expensive and not that great quality, floor and decor has better selection and PRICES. TAKE PICTURES! I REGRET NOT TAKING MORE PICTURES! especially when walls are down and when a you finish the fixtures and plumbing when you add stuff to walls it's hard to remember.
Absolutely incredible job!
You can hire any laborer for dirt cheap, it's skilled labor thats expensive. Def save a ton with diy.
Thank you for the info I am looking to remodel a condo so this video helped out a lot.
A pro could do everything in a week easily. but they hae done hundreds of bathroom remodels. they know where to buy things, they already own most things needed.
Love this so much!!! It’s going to take double the time double the renovation!!! 9:38
5:28 “double it or triple it” love that. It’s double or triple the cost of materials.
Great links for all the supplies Shelby! Great share and Dads are great. I should know…I’m a dad❤… here’s a New Friend Sub!
Hi Shelby,
My wife and I are renovating The Ole Church in Newfoundland, Canada….very expensive for sure! Here in Canada, it’s usually 50-50…..50% for materials and supplies and 50% for labour/contractors!
Thank you for sharing. This is very helpful and gives understanding of contractors and pricing. I’m about to remodel my small bathroom. Trying to make plans now. Again thank you,
In india you can make complete house with bathroom bedroom kitchen with necessary amenities in this price.
first time viewer and just wanted to shout out my thanks to you and this video <3
Who tiles from the top down? Also a light in the shower makes a huge difference and a humidity sensor switch for the fan turns it on and off automatically
I wish I had someone with experience to guide me. I’m sure I could do the work. just having someone who knows what they are doing makes all the difference.
and if you paid a contractor to do that bathroom it would have been 20k
wow amazing
A helpful Idea
All in all. I love how your bathroom came out. The only thing i would change is the shower til. In my opinion, staggered might've gave it a better look. Thank you for acknowledging all the work that goes in remodeling anything. People think every contractor charges to much. It's not what you think can do. It's what you know how to do. Which essentially will make a job faster.
This vid title caught my attention 🙂 I'll report back 🤟
Lessons of learning:
1.QUOTES:
At least 3 !
They determine cost and scope of works.
2. CHOOSE CONTRACTOR carefully ~¤ WHO IS HONEST AND FAIR – MINDED
TO WORK WITH.
3. Set a time line.
4. Allow for extra [ at least 10 % ]
5. COMMUNICATION IS KEY….
Learn the language of building.
Terminology : egs
Bullnose; soft close; recycled; subcontractors; etc
aw is that your dad helping you buy stuff at the hardware store? 😂 that's just like me and my dad. I pay for everything but his knowledge and advice is priceless.
I do bathroom remodels in Ottawa, Canada. A bathroom with a curbless shower will cost you $18-20k all included (canadian dollars).
Biggest expenses are plumber (2-3k), electrician (could be 0, but could be 2k), shower door ($900 minimum).
Essentially my fee for doing the work is 7.5k and it takes about 12 days (except plumbing, hvac, electrical which require a licence).
My overhead is $1.5k a month. There are also non billable things involved (cost of “free” quotes, loading/unloading truck, vacation, retirement, etc…). Income taxes and Canada pension plan are about 40-50% on average (includes medical insurance in Canada).
There is nothing difficult in a bathroom remodel, that isn’t documented on the internet. Anyone can do their 3rd bathroom fairly well. But you’ll still stuggle to do the first two fairly quickly and with an acceptable quality. I just finished a job for a client. He started his bathroom remodel 3 years ago and he’s not even half way done. That kind of situations do happen. Be realistic with your skills/budget/schedule and you’ll do well.
I would pay u 15k for that bathroom!
I find it odd that you say an item's "total cost" when it's only a single item.
yeah you forgot the workers comp and liability insurance
The prices paid on materials was way too high
