I’m in the process of converting an old unkept allotment into an ecologically managed ‘no dig’, or ‘minimal disturbance’ vegetable garden and it’s finally time to create the main growing beds.
The allotment had been dug over year after year, and the soil has sunk and degraded overtime. However, by mulching, instead of digging or tilling, we can mimic natural proccess and start to rebuild the soil structure and allow the myriad of like within to thrive, whilst creating a symbiotic relationship with the plants as they grow, increasing yields and boosting biodiversity. 🌱🌼🐝
There’s also far less weeds and effort once they are made. 😊🙌🏻 and ground beds are cheaper to make and are less likely to harbour pests than raised beds.
Why would you ever dig? 🌱

After making your beds can you plant immediately or should you wait any time before so? First time and all information is greatly appreciate:)
They look awesome!!!!!
I love your content and follow on IG. This particular method is that all that is needed as far as layering and then you can plant? For instance, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, green beans, herbs, etc?
Very nice and beautiful ❤❤❤❤Thank you ❤❤❤❤Subscribed ❤❤❤❤❤
The cardboard was dry under the compost I think you need to wet it first
Finally getring my allotment after years of waiting. Can't wait to get cracking. I used to have small patch in my garden at my old house, but now can get cracking.
We started an allotment for my aunt a few years back the same way. But morning glory was a pain in the bum in the initial year. However with regular weeding it lost its vigour and eventually disappeared.
Recommended on a coment on Dannies channel love your work subbing happy gardening Richardx
Sorry just crawled out from under my rock but what’s the deal with no-dig ? Is it for convenience / topping up the eroded soil and/or has other eco significance ?
Your videos make me so happy! Thank you for sharing. Sending love from Montréal ❤
I don't get it.
I don't garden, I don't grow my own veggies, but I can't stop watching your channel lol
Actually makes me want to get into it! Great content, thank you
Great video. I found you on IG after following Charles Downing, glad I found you. Excited to see more videos and learn. Can you do a video on organic pest control :). Do y'all have any animals?
It looks like a zebra crossing 🚸 😅
These look very decent, do you have any videos on the growing schedule and doesn’t the no dig approach work with most veg or fruits ?? 🎉
Dang.. I should have watched this before I killed myself digging my bed out with just a mattock and a shovel! I’ve got some other stuff still to plant so am going to give this method a try too 🙂
I tried the cardboard, but it attracts to many bugs that eat up my plants roots. Plants that have a huge root system seem to do fine, but smaller plants like my lettuce and zinnias were demolished. The rolly polly's love the cardboard and small plant.
Very good
Hiya my g. How many of those big 900l bags did it take to make all these beds? Tryna figure out how many bags I need.
Keep up with the vids. Steezy dude.
Great video looking forward to seeing how things progress
What size is this plot and how many bulk bags of compost and wood chippings did you use? I’ve just inherited a very similar allotment so I’m trying to figure out how much I need to order
Fascinating! I’ve watched much of Charles Dowding’s content, so this is very familiar to me. Love the idea of a roll of packing cardboard, so much easier than stripping down boxes. I would love to do this to my small garden, but we are plagued by cats owned by my various neighbours. That compost would be full of cat s—t overnight!
I’m soooo happy you’ve started a YouTube channel!💚💚💚
How do you plant through the cardboard with the soil so shallow?
You’re content is the best content, I hope @youtube realise 🎉
How much did this cost?
So satisfying to see the beds develop!! 👏🏻
Hey Jamie, loved the vid , nice to hear a northen accent, all i get here is french accents 🤣🤣🤣, i know you grow tons on your regular plot, i wondered if youve ever grown chaote , im trying it this year for the first time, so any prosand cons would be great, all the best from France ,,,, Dave
Hi Jamie, I am really happy to have found this channel. Whereabouts is your new plot? I am still struggling with the weather here in Staithes so my plot is still very wet.
What a fabulous job . Can't wait to see it evolve. So glad you started the channel.
Brilliant! Would you use this method on a (steepish) slope/edge?
Great video! Newbie here. Could I do this over partially weedy clay soil and be able to plant directly into the compost?
Only two videos in, but I can tell this is going to become my favourite YouTube channel! Love everything you do on Instagram and am so excited for the longer form content 💚
This is a very satisfying video, can’t wait to watch your progress.
I cant wait for this channel to take off so you can add more frequently. I really enjoy watching/hearing you.
Looks great! Do you plant right into compost?
Great video, good to see the process and how simple it can be! Really transformed it into a more inviting space as well.
Great video, really informative and helpful 🧝🏻♀️
