In a pinch it shines the metal, but it's not a cleanser – it doesn't connect to chalky grime or even mildew/ mould; vinegar will do that + much cheaper…

This woman is just plain silly. Tooth paste makes a great, but rather expensive, cleaner. It makes metal shine brilliantly and would work fine cleaning a faucet.
A good quality toothpaste isn't sticky though! Just saying.

Use conditioner if you have hard water spots.
Toothpaste is a mild abrasive like Ajax or Comet powder and it has laurel sulfate to make it foam up a little, I bet it will work fine; although I wouldn’t use it regularly

Toothpaste is not sticky. That’s why it works so well on teeth. Most styles are a bit gritty though. Sticky would be gum, a lollipop a kid put in their mouth, honey, scotch tape.
I don’t clean my faucet with toothpaste because I use cleanser. But toothpaste is not sticky.

Holy millennial!! Toothpaste has silica in it (micro sandpaper) and has been used as a jewelry cleaner. Like high grit sandpaper it can be used to polish metals. You would ruB and REMOVE. A LITTLE GOOGLE WOULD HAVE PREVENTED HER ERRONEOUS RANT

My brain autocorrected you saying toothpaste on a sponge to toothbrush because it made more sense to me.
But it looks like it worked, so what’s the difference? Yes, toothpaste is sticky, but you are going to rinse it off. I don’t understand why this upsets you? Why don’t you explain why this should not be done, besides saying it is sticky, which is only applicable if you are not going to rinse.
