You must know this info before you renovate your mobile home. Mobile homes are built a little different than a stick built house and knowing the structure can save you from making big mistakes. How much weight can you add to a mobile home?

(Made in appreciation of our friend Kent who knows a lot more about mobile homes than we do and has helped us tremendously along the way. I hope everything I said was correct and it helps others who want to fix up their own mobile homes.)

  1. Just bought a mobile home in Montana next to our kids (the only reason we bought it), 2×6 walls, 2×8 floor joists, 50 gal. water heater, 200 amp service, good vinyl windows double glazed, on a poured foundation well insulated and I didn't even consider purchasing it until I crawled under, over and inspected it. Couldn't believe how good it was for a mobile home, doesn't equal a stick built house but, family is everything!

  2. I had a question because I got water underneath my mobile home so I don’t know if I start at the roof or at the windows or from the bottom of the mobile home. I don’t know if the little screws on the siding of the motorhome is letting Water in I don’t know if Wateris coming in from where the mobile home needs the skirting I’m lost. Where do I start?

  3. We remodeled our house top to bottom just like this. Completely flipped it from a trailer to a converted home. Our basement wall was built which is technically a crawl space to support all the exterior weight that supports the outside walls, the inside where the house come together on the the marriage line you just put pylons and extra beefy support. It's really quite simple. It does the job and or do what my neighbor did, which is put another I-beam right down the middle. Even though it's Overkill. The cantilevered weight support for the center is plenty. We're talking extreme amounts of weight can be supported on those steel i-beams. They're still i-beams can support so much weight. People don't realize how powerful those beams are

  4. Couldn't you just lay down more or thicker plywood on top? Essentially raising the floor by another 3/4" or whatever? That would strengthen existing floor boards, glue and screws to reinforce. Or would the extra weight just be too much for the studs/joists underneath?

  5. Nice description…these homes are some of the most poorly designed/ constructed buildings ever built!! The manufacturer's/designer's did everything possible to profit the most, without regard to strength or structural integrity…

  6. my friend is there no visqueen vapor barrier on the ground? That might be why you have mold on the floor and might rot out your whole floor eventually. I would highly recommend putting some down asap if there is none.

  7. Rehab 4th one. Heads up..Sink sprayer,Fawcett leaks, toilet tank Sweating, line & connector leaks, mobile home movement over time loosens toilet base from wax seal Use RUBBER TOILET BASE SEALS instead of WAX FOR Sink USE the New pull down Fawcett Sprayer. ALWAYS CHECK FOR UNDER SINK LEAK AND KEEP A 3" OR DEEPER LARGE STORAGE TRAY UNDER SINK TO CATCH WATER SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY UNKNOWN PROBLEM. MAKE SURE IT IS UNDER ALL YOUR DRAIN PIPES AND WATER LINES. ALSO ADD INSULATION TO UNDER SINK WALL I USE ALUMINUM RUBBER PEAL AND STICK EASILY CUTS TO SIZE YOU NEED 6"×20' roll $6. HDPO. This product is great for Outside repairs also. Learning you don't have to spend a lot to winter ize your mobile home. This product will work well on clean and dry plastic, metals read and follow instructions for great results. Works well around Roof vents, under pin water lines with heat tape, under tub, toilet pipes and water lines. Always use the heat tape in these areas also. Don't want any one to have problems and have to get under mobile home this winter. These are very cheap fixes that will save you thousands in repairs and stess.❤

  8. My 2003 Skyline mobile home lost its metal roof during Hurricane Helene, we had a covered walkway and it peeled the walkway and 1/2 the metal roof off. Then 2 weeks Later Milton hit.Hole in the roof, my bathroom ceiling is starting to fall apart. Insurance adjuster sends all these plans replacing ceilings with 5/8 inch drywall. They have us replacing all the ceiling. All these out of town contractors show up and there are no real contractors who specialize in mobile homes, with the exception of working under the home. We had no problem with the weight of the metal roof but my insurance has no idea you can't put all this weight on the ceiling. We're going to try the stronger bleach for the stained ceilings but I'm afraid if we don't follow the insurance adjuster they won't pay the repairs. We've been in Tampa for a long time and never experienced anything like this. I would really love to have my front porch back but now concerned the wind got under it and pulled the roof off. Would like any suggestions you have for the roofers. I think all the wood needs to be replaced because the old shingles were so bad. and not sure there's a way to get extra structure under the roof before the roof is replaced. Would replacing the wood on the roof and removing the old shingles reduce some of the weight?

  9. If anybody is reading this and can point me in the right direction . I purchased a mobile home and the marriage line is a bit off and seems to be separating at the floor . I’m not sure how to fix it or who does that kind of job
