Saying something about companies taking advantage of you and then promoting rocket money seems braindead
I am the father to one of those families, have I got a story to tell you.
I live down the street from someone that "benefitted" from this show. They destroyed her one room house THAT SHE COULD AFFORD and replaced it with a 9-room house. Needless to say, she ended up selling the house 2 years later because she simply couldn't afford the electric, fuel, and taxes on her new house. It would have been FAR better if they had just built a house that she could continue to afford that would have also allowed improved space for her 9 children.
Don't you mean Extreme Home Takeover?
In my country we have laws around this there the costs will not rise if you get a renovation in this way, completely to avoid the issues who force them to sell their new home. I have always been critical to this shows tendency to design the kids bedrooms but the cost part I didn’t really realize until my country got this law. Sadly I am not living in America who probably needs the law more than we do… our version of EMHE is not as extreme, the outside of the house is not rebuild if it’s not necessary, but still. And if the family still sells the house, with rarely happens here, no one does a thing of it, it’s not anyone else’s business.
So if they were just renting, did the show buy the home from the owner??
So in the end all those lixury houses for struggling families ended up, as we call over here, white elephans, a gift so expensive to maintain that becomes a problem
I remember loving this show growing up. But my parents always looked SO uncomfortable. One house they quadrupled the house size and I was star struck, but my dad rubbed the back of his neck and said they didnt quadruple the house, they quadrupled their property tax. They saw all this coming before it happened which is just so sad. They paid off one families mortgage, or so they said. They should've done that with more of them to at least TRY and help.
I am a contractor and I HATE these shows and have hated them for decades…Now I hate them even more.
I always knew the homes couldn't be any good given the time period they were built in. But I had no idea the psychological manipulation that went on with this show.
"You have to accept this, it's a gift. You'll appear ungrateful. You better love it! Look how many volunteers we got!"
When I'm reality the family is nothing more than a macguffin so the show can happen and a community can feel good about itself.
The best act of charity you can probably do for someone is to get them a good financial advisor.
I love videos like this that give us the backstory of all of our favorite shows growing up ❤
If any of these families were smart, the second the camera crews and show wrapped up they should have gone over their finances to see If they could afford the bills/property taxes etc. for the new giant extravagent house, every house could sell for 2x to 3x what their previous house could easily, all these people could have made out with 100,000 or more and gone back to living in a regular billed home that they could afford and not only they would have a massive chunk of change for whatever their hearts desired, but also the TV show would be making a ton of money so it would have been a win win, but instead they keep the house because I'm not sure "sentiment" maybe, desire to live beyond your means? The TV show may have not cared what happened after the show but these bad financial decisions were solely on the families and no Blame should go torwards the show that just gave you a giant FREE paycheck if they had a bit more common sense.
One of the many agendas of networks owned by companies associated with people like george soros. Its all connected, slow and ceetain subversion, depopulation, breaking of spirit, family units, unnecesary hardships, intentional and unnecesary illnesses, feeding them more chemicals to make them worse so they come back and get more chemicals to make them worse. Its an endless sharade and people think their intentions were good. No network owned by associates of evil old nazis are ever well intended. Be delusional all you want. Its no conspiracy theory, it happens right in your face every day, and everyone thinks this is all just naturally occuring. Ridiculous.
Yeah, it's the same as a poor person winning a mega-lottery, or Oprah buying the whole audience new cars.
The responsibility of paying taxes and upkeep are not considered. This used to happen all the time to winners on game shows in the 70s and 80s.
That's why by the 90s if you read the fine print in the show's credits you'll see that they always gave the contestants the option to receive an equivalent cash prize instead.
They still pretend to offer all the prizes because they're selling the advertising of them. But people always take the cash because it makes it easy to pay the income tax.
Welcome to the real world hippy!
I built a house near Spokane, Washington for this show. They forced us to cut a million corners and the family lost the home within months. They could not afford the land taxes after the new home raised them up to high.
why demolish the whole structure if there’s nothing wrong with it? why not fix the damaged parts and add extension if needed but there was absolutely no reason for a whole demolition apart from making
questionabletv"We did a few hours of volunteer work, 3 years ago. How dare they sell the house"
Sounds a lot like Pimp my ride. "Hey, we heard you like fish, so we took out all your passenger seats and added an aquarium!"
