Can these repairmen fix a simple water heater leak or will they try to sell us an expensive replacement? Inside Edition rented a house in Montclair, New Jersey, for an entire month, tricking it out with cameras and then calling the fix-it guys to see what happened. The footage was transmitted in real time to a remote command post. In Inside Edition’s second installment in a special series of investigations, we created a simple water heater leak, then called a variety of different plumbers to see what they would do. #InsideEdition

When u get the cowboy plumbers
Rarely you need a new water heater. I always give my clients 3 options if required for something as simple as turning a wrench ill just do you a favor for future business.
Big house, wealthy looking woman, must seem like easy money to a crook.
Dog who let TSM Myth become a plumber😂
If it’s hot water, why does it need to be heated?
this is all to help them to scam you in the future how old is this and everything
Willing to bet if you told those other guys you were recording them they would be honest as well 😂
1:10 feel like I’ve watched this somewhere
Do you know a good plumber for each state
You need to call Leon at House Husbands. He will help you navigate repairs.
To be fair to the guy that IS the cause of a leak 99.9999% of the time. Those unions don't all of a sudden become loose. My verdict.. not a scammer.
Scammers scamming😂
They have a flexible supply line on the cold side and they have it hard piped on the hot side. The install is a total hack job. It's an old water heater. As a plumber myself, I wouldnt touch it without replacing the water heater and surrounding piping. Why? Because the risk of me getting called back 2 days later because "it's leaking again and the plumber was just here" is wayyyy too high.
Not saying I agree with lying and saying it's cracked, but as an honest plumber I certainly would be telling them to get a new one as well.
like i said , but he didnt say …what a scumbag
The problem is that these companies you work for make you upsell everything so these guys lie to please these degenerate heathen bosses
ghetto rat in da house
Should have charged a trip fee. Time is money
AMC (ATLANTIC MECHANICAL
Contractors Plumbing Heating Cooling) from Nutley, NJ ripping people off since 1987…🤦🏼♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏿♂️
Should rip offs be working? Or are they 💯
I Didn't want to do my Job. Cmon. Hahaha LOL! 😂🤣
The last guy is lucky he was drafted in NBA's 2020 class.
Plumbers are all crooks. I had one guy coming to fix a simple drainage clog. He fixed it within 2 minutes and slapped me with a $400 invoice.
these repair guys should be arrested.
tech came in under the impression that the unit hasn't been tampered with
She can come to my house anytime
I’m in the ac/heating business….this is how I go about stuff like this: ……Here’s the problem and repair, however this thing should really be replaced since it’s close to twenty years old. We can
A. Leave it the way it is.
B. Repair it
C. Put the money towards a new one.
Customers looooooove the honesty and I’ve gotten all the above responses.
Yeah poor guy, looked like he was going to cry. He’s just a noob, I didn’t think he was really trying to scam anyone.
I wish they would mention the name of the honest companies as well for publicity. Especially the one company that didn't even charge a service fee. I understand it's a business and they have to make money, but not charging a service fee to just look at it is almost unheard of.
A little knowledge and some tools go a long way.
Staged
He secretly fixes it, and still says it's broken. lol
I have been a plumbing contractor for almost 40 years. My father's uncle started me in the business, and he told me, early on, that if you have to lie and cheat people, you do not possess skills or integrity. It's a business that requires honesty and trustworthiness. His favorite saying was: sell customers everything they need, and nothing they do not need.
I know people hate to do it but you need to get a second maybe a third opinion 😂😂❤
Please make more of these we need a 2025 edition.
The problem isn’t always the tech. Some companies have commission based pay. Commission in a service industry will always incentivize dishonesty.
I’ve literally installed hundreds of water heaters and I’ve never seen a water heater cracked on top or down the sides. However I have seen water heaters rusted out on the bottom and gushing plenty of water. Also if the water heater wasn’t leaking before then it probably is now because they kept tightening and retightening the water line over and over again. Those rubber gaskets and threads do not like that.
Thank you for exposing those wicked jerks .
shes leakin soakin wet
That last plumber look like bukkbukkgambling
"honest mistake" – says its broken before even looking at it
he never saw the microphone or what lol
None of this surprises me. While most are honest, there's enough out there that are not only dishonest but plain lazy or incompetent. Especially with small jobs, I've found some get irritated and consider those little things a waste of time. And they'll charge accordingly. The old school plumbers are a rarity now. There is more pressure to sell, so even a perfectly working water heater, if it's over about 10 years old, many will suggest a replacement. Even if it might have several years of service life left.
Where's the most popular bald plumber? 😏
water heaters cheaper to replace then fix cause itll average a couple hundred minimum visit. Assuming plumbers diagnose then fix properly which is rare these days what with miniature tech parts
Loved Lisa’s playboy spread. Woohooo!
It will not stop until there are stiff penalties (ie… deterrence) against this kind of fraud. As it stands, they'll just bounce to the next victim – no harm no foul. There should be police there on the ready to arrest them for fraud.
