About Us.
Byther Farm is a small organic homestead, being designed and managed using permaculture practices. We aim for self-sufficiency in fruit and vegetables for increased self reliance and better resilience to the modern world. I recognise that we are unlikely to be truly self sufficient, but do the best we can. I share our home with my loving husband, Mr J.
We are a fifty-something couple who live on a smallholding in Carmarthenshire, Wales. We are going green and creating a gentler, cleaner and more healthy life for our family.
Having had a highly successful smallholding in Monmouthshire, we hope to recreate the abundance at our new home. There will be a large organic kitchen garden with no dig gardening raised beds and young food forest in which to grown our fruit and vegetables.
We keep a few sheep and Aylesbury ducks.

Use citrus peels for your slugs, they love them
Wow fantastic variety and such a large space there with you 🤗 loving the new intro too. So lovely to see how your garden has been progressing. Thanks for sharing – wonderful grande tour – garden goals for sure 💕
So much fun to “tour” your beautiful and abundant garden! Thank you for sharing 🤩
Hi Liz The cabbage white butterfly love the tree cabbage iv got caterpillar all over the, I should of put my netting over them.
Watched you on gardeners world with your husband that was beautiful when he said how proud of you he is true love and the garden tutorial was good too xxx
Everything is looking fabulous and congrtulations on the Gardeners World segment loved it.
Know the hillside fun of deeper and shallower soil. Like the pots on the path and the Figwort/wasps.
Hi Liz can you do an updated video about choosing a property to grow produce in UK? Who helped you? Where did you start, can you recommend any professionals and places? What needs to be considered, eg weather, previous use, what to avoid and to look for? What to choose if you are solo or as couple, have reduced energy levels etc. Thankyou
Wow. What a variety
Great to see you and your hubby on Gardeners World. Awww, he's such a soppy sausage too! 😊 Really made me smile. I prefer your garden to Monty's.
Love your garden and your approach to polyculture.
Thanks for the tour. Your garden looked amazing on Gardener's World.I tried everywhere, that I know, to get Greek gigantes bean seed this year but sadly couldn't get any. I've ended up sowing a shelling bean called Spagno Bianco. It is doing very well with lots of pods so I hope it will taste nice, fingers crossed. Well done! Happy gardening 🙂
Thanks for the tour. Great appearance on Gardener's World!
Good video
You brought back memories of my dad when you mentioned figwort. My dad used to collect it growing along the canal and he would soak his feet in a bowl with figwort in, not sure if it was for aching legs. We are trying cauliflowers for the first time, we do have some small heads, I pulled the leaves over so keeping my fingers crossed. Your garden is amazing, something to aspire to❤
Liz! You said you need to improve the soil “as the molehills appear!” Please explain… I have to improve my soil and don’t seem to succeed …. Losing my mind.
The slugs are also pretty bad here (Denmark). I am very fortunate to have a hedgehog around, though. And juniper branches around the kale plants also make a difference 🤩
Excelent
Thank you for the upload. You've got a great little set up 🙏❤️🙏❤️
