I LOVE To Buy SEEDS For A Vegetable Garden From These People!

In this video, I share my favorite places to buy seeds for a garden. If you are new to seed starting, it can be hard to find trustworthy seed companies. What are the best places to buy seeds online? Where can you find quality seed with high germination rates? Which seed companies should I avoid? What about mislabeled seeds and other scams? I love to buy seeds for a vegetable garden from these people! These seed exchanges are legitimate businesses selling true seeds for reasonable prices and have excellent customer service.

NOTE: This is not a list of best seed companies. I have not ordered seed from *every* company out there, so I cannot say which seed company is best. “Best” is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, these 10 seed sellers are honest companies with great reputations that I have ordered from with excellent results, so this is a great starting point for new gardeners that are new to starting seed.

  2. Question. What tomatoes do you have good luck with as far as pests and blight? My entire adult life is planted Better Boys, which was difficult to find last year. But all 60 tomato plants did poorly in my spring garden. As well as literally EVERY SINGLE THING ELSE. I fought aphids, then spider mites, blight… fought all spring and summer to keep my head above water last year. I have ALWAYS had a beautiful, plentiful garden. I literally stood in my garden and cried a couple of times. I am going to do different this year…although family matters have had me tied up and I am getting a very late start🤦‍♀️ Forgot to mention. I live in central Alabama, zone 8B.

  3. I had an issue to Burpee seeds I ordered so many times,I’ve traded seeds for quite awhile now, every seeds counts because the price was a little bit pricey. Well I just realize why the packet was so light like nothing on it, So I decided to count squashes seeds I’ve got and something else, it shortened almost a half of written quantities on each packet. I reached out customer service and they really nice to sent me replacement.

  4. I ordered from MI Gardener and Baker Creek this year.
I had an old catalog from Farmerseeds, and was about to order, when I discovered that they were bought by Gurneys…
The price of everything has at tripled now. And Gurneys has one less competitor. 😢

  5. You listed my favorite, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange! I’m in very Upstate South Carolina so I can grow most of what they offer. Let me tell you, my germination rate was 100%. I started hundreds of their seeds and had so much that did perfectly that I was giving plants away like crazy! They do take awhile to ship, though.

  6. I get most of my seeds from Jerra’s Garden & Southern Exposure. The first and only time I ordered from Burpee, I paid for a packet of 30 seeds but it only had 19 seeds inside. They didn’t even respond to my email about it.

  7. I'm in zone 8a, metro Atlanta, Ga. Ordered and already received all my seeds from HOSS. Everything I have ordered from them has a high germination rate. A little expensive. I got tired of the hit or miss quality from the big box stores. HOSS is the real deal!

  8. Laughing out loud here in Georgia. I’ve been trying tomatoes from SESE for 3-4 years thinking their seeds were for the “South” but the only Southern state you mentioned was Tennessee. Hmmmm….

This year I am trying to use up all my old seeds so I can start fresh next year. Will have to look at Tomato Growers!

  9. I also like MI Gardener. And Seed Savers Exchange out of Iowa is not the cheapest but has a nice selection and free shipping for over $25 orders. I can't find the Merlin cucumber seeds you recommended in an earlier YT video. Any suggestion as to where I might find them? BTW, really enjoy your videos – informative and entertaining.

  10. Love Hoss and Southern Exposure! I buy almost everything from them. If you love collards, cowpeas, mustards, and okra, Southern Exposure's selection is unmatched. Hoss is the best value and their hybrids are so productive. Their green beans, sunsugar tomatoes, and jambalaya okra are crazy productive.

  11. Believe it or not, I purchased 12 packets of various seeds from Dollar tree. 4 packets for $1. The quantities are small, and the variety limited. For instance they had two varieties of peas, – Alaska and sugar snap and several varieties of green beans, including blue lake. It's great when you want to try something out and don't need a lot of seeds. Four packets of Alaska peas planted an 8 foot row very nicely this past August when I wanted to try a fall crop of peas. You have to move fast because they run out of them very quickly.

  12. I’m glad I saw another vote for Travis at Lazy Fog Farm. He’s the one that got Hoss started in carrying seeds (he’s the son, now on his own). He doesn’t carry a huge variety, but his quantity/price is fantastic for true vetted varieties in the south. I’ve bought several seeds from him and have had fantastic luck

  13. I’m almost exclusively ordering from Urban Farmer. I really, really don’t like baker creek for both their website name and layout, it’s hard to find what I want.

  14. Thank you – for future, if you could share the links for the companies we came here to learn about that would be very helpful. There are lots of other links but not the ones the title indicates we are coming for. Appreciate the info on the F1 suppliers too since that is something many of us would want to stay hella far away from. Thank you for your time!
