A non-contact voltage tester (NCVT) is a must-have tool for any DIY electrical work around the house. I will put 9 of the top NCVT through multiple tests to find which one is the best bang for the buck and which one I will use on all my projects going forward.

How good is the Milwaukee voltage tester?
Thank you for the video. That was interesting to see and useful results. Please consider making another one this time taking in to account extra features. Like Klein has a model with a range detection, IR thermometer, BSIDE and Kaiweets have a pen probe multi meter with NCV function and lights. Would the presence of additional features tip the scale in their favor.
Love this testing!! I appreciate all the work you put into your videos!
Is there a test for when I lose the tester in the insulation somewhere is the attic? 😜
Basuras todos, me quedo con Aneng A3009, ANENG VC1019, Wintact WT3010..
I'm currently looking for a tester, but when you showed us that the Southwire doesn't detect GFCI circuits, I was crushed (our home has many of them) & those are what I need to test. So knowing this, which would you suggest?
Thank You and blessings to you….
I purchased a CRESCENT CVS600VN- it has a range of 12-1000VAC, 48-1000VAC, an LED light, a 3 band strength indicator, and an audible alarm- beeping more frequently w strength. I paid $28AUD. Only used for a couple of days, but is good.
Previously I owned a Hioki 3120, and had it for years without trouble.
When I lose my fluke 1ac, the first thing I do, is go out and buy a fluke 1ac. Its not that it ever stops working, it just gets sacrificed to the drop ceiling gods or swallowed by the high-hat hole monster about every 3 months. They all probably still work…but the pocket clips are def broke off
This is the video we need right here
Avoid SPERRY. I made that mistake recently. Picks up "voltage" from door knobs, hinges, bathroom mirrors….
SOUTHWIRE-40150N, IP67 waterproof rating, LED at tip, flashlight in rear, two settings- 12-1000 and 100-1000 volts, power button is 100-1000 and press and hold the twelve volt button reads that scale and starts chirping about 5 inches away. I had it for 3 or 4 years now, no issues.
I've dropped my fluke NVC it broke on 1st waste high drop was very disappointed, went with southwire & ideal dropped both & still no issues works very good
Not even reading the comments helped me decide which one to get . Everybody mentions fluke, ideal, scott, greenlee and klein
BTW, using stand alone ir temp testers to compare, multiple manufacturers, that Klein is off by about 3 to 4 degrees. As long as it's consistent in that error that's fine, though haven't determined that yet.
I'm not sure why not detecting on gfci isn't a no go for you…forcing me to comment lol? Anyway I have that exact southwire and Klein ir. I took the southwire to an Eaton gfci and on 24v+ it detected the hot side from about 6 inches away, and on 100v+ it detect from about half an inch away. I use both (I'm not the most trusting). Edit: both southwire and Klein.
Failing a detection test is more important than failing a durability test. When a detector fails any detection test, what other detections will it fail?
I personally like the Fluke 1AC, it seems to have a good balance of sensitivity which helps in crowded junction boxes.
I like 1p better. It doesnt give false beep on neutral and earth wire
A professional union trained electrician uses a Square D Wiggy. Period. If you have to ask what is it, you answered your question
Neighbor: "Frank! That boy's out there again. Bless his heart, he can't keep ahold of those little things of his."
I love my cheap southwire. Ive used it for over 5 years
