How to Clean Toilet Bowl Stains With Baking Soda & Vinegar

Hard water can quickly build up on toilets, sinks and taps and over time can leave rust and scale stains that are very unsightly and often extremely difficult to remove.
Nowhere is this more problematic than in a toilet, which sees a lot of use and holds standing water constantly. While there are many commercial cleaning products that can remove hard water stains in the toilet, baking soda and vinegar are especially effective.
Strong commercial cleaners can also wear away at the enamel on the bowl whilst this solution comes with the added benefit of being free of chemicals.

To use this method
-Pour about 1 cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl and swish it around with a toilet brush. Let it sit for about one minute.
– Next add about 1 cup of baking soda to the toilet bowl, then add another 1 to 2 cups of vinegar. This will create a fizzing action. Let the solution sit for about 10 minutes.
– The third step is to use a toilet brush to swish the solution around the bowl, making sure to get the solution onto any stains that are above the water line, but don’t flush the toilet at this stage.
– The final stage is to let the vinegar and soda solution sit for up to 30 minutes, swishing one or two more times until the stain is gone. If any stain remains, scrub it with the toilet brush or a stiff-bristled nylon brush. Finally flush the toilet to rinse.
After using this method you will find your toilet will be back to a mint condition

  1. The cleaning vinegar in the store is 6% vinegar, good for disinfecting countertops and so forth but not really strong enough for a toilet. I started with 20 oz. of 6% vinegar and added 3 oz. of 30% vinegar to bring it up to 12% vinegar. Took all the water out of the bowl and poured the 12% vinegar into the bowl then added baking soda and used a bristle rush. For the bottom of the bowl I start with no liquid in the bottom and pour in 30% vinegar let stand for 3 hours and use a green scrubby. The inside of the bowl is pure white. No stains anywhere.

  2. This seems like stupid advice. If anything helps, it's vinegar. Adding a base in the form of baking soda only neutralizes the acid. The reaction looks attractive, but in reality, you end up with a neutral solution that does nothing.

  3. This also works. Empty water from toilet bowl using a aqua vax or just scoop out with a cup and then the lid of a deodorant. Mix 6 or 7 Steradent tablets (for cleaning dentures) in a pint of boiling water and let cool for a few minutes. Pour the solution into the toilet bowl and leave overnight. It will be very clean the next morning. False teeth and toilet bowls are both ceramics. You just have to scale things up. In fact if you look at what is in Steradent it is pretty similar to the stuff the guy mixes himself here.

Thank you kindly for this informative upload. Your knowledge and experience is very much appreciated. The effects of mixing baking soda and vinegar are also written in our Holy Scriptures! Keep informing the people…

  5. Sorry. BIG thumbs down on this video. This method does NOT remove the stains. Only a hard constant scrub with a pumice stone is 95% effective. I wish there was something that worked better

  6. I just wanted to let you know that this works. I had to do it twice, but now the bowl looks almost as good as new. Thank you very much! Baking soda and vinegar also work wonders with kitchen sink pipes.

  7. i just want to professional clean my throne 🙁 there’s no hard stains, but it’s time to clean it… i used to use wipes, bathroom bleach spray, cling gel, a brush, and the blue tabs.. tabs are in the tank, i now even bought those sticky toilet things that look like flowers
