I will walk you through the Generation 3 Tesla Level 2 Wall Connector installation. This is an approachable project for DIY homeowners who are comfortable doing electrical work. You will want to check your local electrical code as you might be on a more updated version of the NEC. This project doesn’t have to be expensive and my total cost even with the Tesla unit was only $500 and a couple hours of work. For me I will save money charging at home compared to at a local Tesla Supercharger and the difference will pay for this whole project in 1-2 months so it is a no-brainer.

  2. A power panel in your garage? That's almost like cheating! 🙂 My panel is in the finished part of my basement, which is the opposite side of my house from the garage. I had to run conduit in the most creative way possible to only have to make one hole in the finished basement, which I covered with an access panel. It was a huge amount of work. Not to mention 5 sticks of 10' 1" PVC conduit, 2 runs of 60' of 6 AWG THHN (10AWG for the ground), it was easily $500 in parts, on top of the EV charger. So my installation was more like $1,000.

  3. Excellent work on this video. Again, i stress talking with your local building inspectors on these. Some jurisdictions have shifted to only allow "use " cable.
Also, if you install a receptacle you must install gfci protection for that receotacke, no matter what the unit contains.

  4. even though Tesla wall connector pulls 48A you still have your 60A breaker higher than the wire which is rated for 55A. The question is does it matter for safety reasons, not code, if I need to run the wire 30 feet.

  5. Older homes in Tucson, built during 50s-60s only had 60 amp 220 total power. Long before everyone had A/C, dryers, etc. Ramping up to 200 Amp costs a fortune if you have underground wiring.

  6. meanwhile in the countries with 220-240V you can plug directly into any plug and do not care about charger at all. what a scam US is. Everything is made the way they gonna sell you services non stop

  7. Nice video, many thanks. Just wonder why this installation is coming g from a SUB PANEL, because TESLA recommends never to do that, and instead directly from the MAIN PANEL.

  8. We just had an electrician do it. He also added the solar panels and the teslas big battery. Now we can fast charge. It was really easy, all I had to do it point with my finger.

  9. How are you liking your Cybertruck? Have you had any buyer's remorse over the past couple of months with all that's going on in the political world here in the US? I'm a MY LR owner. My wife would prefer we sell it, but that's not going to happen. A friend of mine had one for 1-1/2 years and just sold it and bought a Hyundai Ionic5. Crazy times we live in.

  10. Safety tips:
    1. Turn off the breaker at the main panel BEFORE removing the cover of the sub panel.
    2. Install the cover back on the panel BEFORE turning on the power at the breaker of the main panel, then turn on the breaker at the sub panel.

    3. Test the voltage at the wall connector (that's where it REALLY counts for your installation) instead of at the breaker panel, then turn off the breaker before you install the Tesla main unit onto the back plate. Note that this voltage test is the only instance where you have the chance to get zapped if you are following these tips.

  11. For those that have 100A panels or all electric houses most can get by with buying a charger that can be configured to charge level 2 at only 20-30 amps. Especially if you are only charging overnight and only to 80%. I charged my first ev, a Nissan Leaf, with level 1 for 7 years (about 5 miles per hour charge).
