VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
When her old house needed a new roof, new HVAC, and constant maintenance, Lillian decided it was time for a change. As a single woman, she made a bold move—downsizing from a 1,500 sq. ft. home in North Carolina to a 280 sq. ft. custom tiny house in Maggie Valley. In just two months, she went from listing her old home to moving into her new space, which she lovingly calls “The Lily Pad.”

In this video, Lillian opens the doors to her cozy 24 ft long tiny home, designed and built by Daniel Kilmer of Sherwood Innovations. From the welcoming French doors to the lofted bedroom, every square foot of her home has been carefully curated with a blend of farmhouse charm and Asian-inspired décor. She shares how she designed small “ambiance corners,” repurposed meaningful items like her beloved de ballerina statue, and created a space that truly feels like home.

What You’ll See in This Tiny Home Tour:
-A welcoming living room with a fireplace and space-saving furniture.
-A functional kitchen with clever storage, a coffee nook, and tips on what appliances really work best in a tiny home.
-A cozy loft bedroom with smart lighting and storage solutions.
-A full bathroom featuring copper accents, shelving, and accessibility modifications.
-Outdoor living spaces, including a deck, dining area, and even a custom catio for her two cats.

Why She Went Tiny:
After decades of working as a NICU nurse and retiring in 2020, Lillian was ready for a simpler, more affordable life surrounded by nature. Selling her traditional home not only gave her the freedom to purchase her tiny house outright for $72,000, but also allowed her to pay off debt and live with far fewer expenses. Her monthly costs are minimal—just $600 for lot rent at Elk Passage tiny home community, which includes water, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and yard maintenance.

Life-Changing Benefits of Tiny Living:
-Freedom from expensive repairs and high bills.
-A simpler, cozier lifestyle with everything within reach.
-Quick cleaning and easier maintenance.
-Closer connection to family and neighbors in a supportive community.

More financial security and peace of mind in retirement.
Lillian’s story proves that tiny home living isn’t just for couples or young adventurers—anyone, at any stage of life, can make the transition. As she says: “If I can do this as a single woman in two months, anybody can do it.”

Whether you’re exploring downsizing, planning for retirement, or just curious about the tiny home lifestyle, this tour offers inspiration, design ideas, and a firsthand look at the joys of simple living in the mountains of North Carolina.

  1. I 💛 your eye for decorating. Everything vibes so well. It's almost like a fairy house. The outdoor area is perfect too.
The only thing I would change is the sleeping area. I couldn't survive in a loft, I would have to have a standing bedroom.
But I see it works perfectly for you 😊.
All the best to you 🤠

  2. I must be the only one on here who thinks it's over-decorated… I mean it's lovely, but for me personally it's cluttered with too many decorative items. She may be living with the minimum in one sense of tiny living however it doesn't appear to me a minimalist home. I also live in a small villa but I have to choose my decor wisely because too much overwhelms the space. Which is what I see in the home is that it's overwhelmed by stuff. But if she's happy that's all that matters.

  3. So beautiful…. What a dream home….And I love Maggie Valley…A quite little town and beauty all around ….If I ever get a tiny house, Maggie Valley is where I would put it!!!Such a dream!!!😍
