Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

Yes great garden choice ! But raccoons get my corn every time I grow it!❤
Good all round list 👍
I would add one more
Sweet potatoes similar to plain ones but a but more energy and vitamins during survival periods.
Hey Mark, I would add to your list, bananas, mushrooms, onions and garlic. I would add cilantro and a few other herbs. With what you listed, I think you could live a long time and be healthy. ❤❤❤
🎉
I’d add onions/garlic to this mix. You can harvest them at any time, eat the greens, and, if properly cured, will last the entire year before you harvest again
I know you’re in a tropical climate, but one of the best things to grow in temperate climates is apples. They store so well you can have them all winter, you can make cider if there isn’t safe drinking water, you can make apple cider vinegar to use for cleanliness and food stuff.
Apples 👍
He actually says tomato 😅

Hi Mark, Know what i find really strange in the UK, 3 cornered leaks, clasified as a weed, grow and spread like wild fire and are very early flowering and yet no one wants or grows them, really hardy and every bit can be eaten. Yet people are buying onions/spring onions instead of the free organic wonderful leaks?
Add raspberries and all brambles
THANK you for this…. 👍🏻👍🏻
#1 steak
Love you. Mark!!
I’ve found tomato’s to be someone intolerant to the soil where I’m at in the southeastern us
Parsnips and Turnips
Corn can't be digested. It looks exactly the same as the day I ate it when it ends up in the bathroom. Also it needs to be planted in large batches because it wind pollinates. Super unreliable results if you don't have the space to plant lots of them together.

Mate , we live in the Southern Highlands NSW too cool for most of your suggestions in autumn
Beans are a complete source of protein?? Can't be
The true play is to wear nothing and just hold up your NOD when u need to see
