  1. Great to know of rain shadowing as a positive benefit for Mediterranean plants. I lost my Pius IX camelia, because I didn't realize it was seriously dry under the eve on the north side of my house. Here in the Pacific Northwest Puget Sound area the wet comes principally from the south. A dry, cold north wind desiccated my camelia overnight.to the point where I suspected sudden oak death. The agricultural extension agent told me otherwise. We are often told our climate is "Mediterranean" so a lot of such plants are favored here.

  2. I’ve had to lift my dahlias yesterday due to garden renovations starting next month – I’m drying them out in the greenhouse then keeping in newspaper in a dark cupboard until the spring – is that ok? will b starting them off in the spring in pots in heated greenhouse before planting out again 😊

  3. Hi Simon, yesterday I went out to a small garden centre that I seldom visit. It's not in a big chain so you get some different plants that you don't usually see …if ever. I stumbled upon a Tricyrtis ( toad lillie ) which I have never heard of or even seen before. I couldn't leave it so paid full price ………aaaagggggh (that hurt ) , and for the fact it loves even full shade. I have looked it up on some videos, and one of them mentioned it about right to plant it in early spring or autumn ( now ). Would you agree with this ? as I value your opinion and your Michael Caine impression 😉
