A lot of DIY was cracked out at our home this week, beginning with finishing off our outside steps, having some friends over to help us with our extension prep, and failing at moving our digger round the side of our house. Thank you so much for watching and see you next week!

  1. Hi I would get the Brickies in for sure, because if you don’t get this right it will have a knock on effect on the rest of the build and even the roof, so lay the £ out on the brickies cause it will save you in the long run for sure, good luck enjoying your vlogs

  2. If i was you i would pay a bricklayer because you could end up having to rebuild it anyway, but you could ask if he will let you set up for him getting the mortar ready for him and stack the bricks to save him lots of time , great channel

  3. Love watching the both of you and the crew. I'm 70 now, but feel like helping. I'm still working on both my daughters houses and this is when I chill watching your videos. Good luck and keep it up regards Ed

  4. Hi guys, loving the progress, am particularly interested in the building control requirements re the two levels of dpc and how to 'marry' them up, if I remember correctly the extension floor level is several steps down? a wee bit of tech detail on this would be very helpful

  5. For foundation depths you can use the NHBC tables from chapter 4.2. If you’ve got clay subsoil the trees will have an impact on depths. If you’ve can identify nearby trees this will give you a rough idea of the depths you’ll need to dig down to.

  6. I am a new sub here and an old lady. I watch your channel on TV and I don't know how to subscribe from there, anyhow I found that one can subscribe from the phone 😊and so I did. You guys are doing awesome job well done so far.

  7. Great vid guys! I would say if you get a couple of sheets of ply out the front and cut the bulk bags onto the sheets of ply while the delivery lorry holds them in the air it’s ten times easier to shovel the sand into barrows while still keeping it clean! You’re working so hard and keep the graft up guys! 💪🏻

  8. why let the trades have all the fun.

blockwork is lego for grown ups.

i have a saying, all i can do is fu*** it up.

if i do a rubbish job, ill knock it down, and start again.

i have absolutely no problem with nailing things on the second or third attempt.
(guess how the professionals trades learned)

  9. Another great video showing you all working so hard. It must be so tough doing it during the winter months. I don't know what to suggest about the brickwork for your kitchen extension. Only you will know if you're capable (with Alfie's know-how) of doing it yourselves (along with regular checks from building control). And anyway, isn't this what the fun is about, especially for us viewers, to see if you can pull it off or not? I have every faith in you. Can't wait to see next week's installment! xx

  10. It’s a no brainer, get the professionals for the extension. It’s fine to do little bits like the steps and a bit of the retaining wall but doing the extension yourselves is ridiculous. The steps and the part of the wall you done yourselves would not pass any building standards

  11. Approx 2k inc vat for materials. Loving the videos. I'd pay for just a brickie and both labour for him if he's willing. Also I'd take apart the garage to get things through to the garden. Will save so much time and labour in the long run. x x

  12. Have you thought about a timber frame, with cladding or render carrier boards. Meets building regulations and you can build it yourself (I know as I have just completed a 2 story extension myself). Good luck.
