Stop Mixing Baking Soda & Vinegar – Laundry Tips

Please stop mixing vinegar and baking soda when cleaning. While it’s a very fun reaction it completely naturalizes the benefits of both.

Baking soda, sodium bicarbonate, is a high pH water softener that should be introduced early in the wash cycle. To achieve this add a tablespoon or two directly into the drum. Baking soda is also an amazing laundry booster that I talk about in other videos!

Vinegar is an acidic low pH chemical that should be introduced late in the wash cycle. Vinegar helps with stain and odor removal along with fabric softening.

When you combine the two they neutralize each other, from a pH perspective, which negates a lot of their benefits. I love both just keep them apart, they’re like fighting kids.

  1. If you can get them to mix together in the washing machine that maybe OK. The bubbles formed may break up dirt. You could do a baking soda wash for say 10 minutes then add vinegar to the detergent tray and when mixed the bubbles will clean

  2. I have to do it the other way round otherwise my clothes don't clean properly. If I add the vinegar first the softer water ( I have very hard water) makes a better lather for the soap and then I add a tiny bit of baking soda to the fabric softener section to help wash off the soap. My clothes kept coming out dirty the other way round because the vinegar wouldn't allow the soap to wash off properly.

  3. Also sometimes I share this, the Bible says that GOD loves us so much that he sent his son JESUS CHRIST to this earth and HE lived a perfect sinless life. And JESUS went to a cross and gave HIS life for us.And rose again in 3 days and who ever will receive JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOR AND ASK HIM TO COME INTO THEIR HEART AND FORGIVE THEIR SINS,HE WILL TAKE YOU TO HEAVEN.

  4. It is great to clean your drains. Dump in some baking soda into the drain and then pour in vinegar. Then pour in some more vinegar to activate the rast of the vinegar. It works great on the garbage disposal also. I don't measure. Then rinse with water.

  5. Well unfortunately as an appliance repairman I do not totally agree with this video. Although you can make a case for not mixing the two and the actual washing of clothes as far as removing black stubborn mold stains from the rubber gasket you absolutely should make a paste of baking soda and vinegar around all of the black mold areas on your rubber door gasket play Saran Wrap over leave it overnight or leave it for a few hours come back wipe it out with a sponge in your black mold and stains will be gone😮😅😊

  6. Same for cleaning product and drain cleaning (unless you want gas pressure.) For hard water without the vinegar smell you can use phosphoric acid properly diluted instead. It is often called muriatic acid but will probably need to be diluted further. Thank you for the clip btw, the stupidity of mixing these two has annoyed me to no end!

  7. Exactly. Hill-billies are really dunce, so they think these 2 things always go together for everything becauae it's cool. Also they think anything which needs vinegar has to be changed to apple cider vinegar. (because it's trendy and stupid) And then of course they think they have to add baking soda.

  8. My fabric softener slot releases fluid the moment I close the detergent door. Normally, a washer would fill the slot in with more water to “turn on” the softener slot (it works like an Aristotle’s greedy wine cup; add too much liquid, and a hidden channel will siphon everything out), but mine just releases no matter what. Idk how to fix this.
