6 Months of DIY: Transforming a Derelict Welsh Farmhouse and Smallholding! (ep.12)

Six months ago, we swapped the busy streets of London for a 13.5-acre smallholding and a derelict farmhouse in the heart of West Wales. It’s been a life-changing adventure, full of challenges, surprises, and small victories as we work to turn this neglected property into our forever home.

From day one, it’s been all hands on deck—clearing overgrown fields, tackling unexpected issues with our static caravan, and starting the daunting task of stripping the house back to its original stone shell. Along the way, we’ve faced storms, floods, and even 80mph winds that tested both us and the property. But there have also been some incredible moments: adopting Seren, our rescue dog, hosting our first bonfire night with family, and slowly watching the farmhouse transform.

This video is a celebration of everything we’ve achieved over the past six months, and we’re so excited to share it with you. While it’s been far from easy, we’ve learned so much and are proud of every small step we’ve taken toward creating a self-sufficient, nature-oriented life here in Wales.

Join us as we look back at our journey so far and get ready for what’s next. Thank you for all your support—it means the world to us! Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe to follow along as we continue this wild, rewarding adventure.

OUR STORY:
We’re Gav and Nicole and we decided to risk everything by swapping our comfortable lives in the city to buy an abandoned homestead/smallholding in the West of Wales.

We have a huge challenge on our hands as the property and the land all need a full renovation after lying empty for 6 years but as we spent everything we had on the move, we will be doing all the work ourselves. This is a life time project though, so we have time to figure it all out!

We would love if you would like and subscribe and follow our journey!

  8. Channel showed up on my feet today, thought I would check it out, because I watch quite a few Chateau renovations, and thought I would try yours out. When you pull up the rugs, the wind floors are beautiful, they don’t make them like that anymore.
